Ben Burgess out of action for three months!

I am busy at present hence the reason for the late updates, however this evening I have attended the gym! However I also was disappointed to hear that injury-plagued Ben Burgess will be sidelined for three months. He landed awkwardly on his left knee in the game against Southampton a week ago and had to limp off. The extent is now known and he will be out until the end of February.

Peter Taylor is relieved though that it is not a more serious injury, having been without the big centre forward for a whole year when he previously injured the same knee. Elsewhere, Andy Dawson and Keith Andrews return after injuries when City play Cardiff on Saturday.

Unfortunately, Peter Taylor may also have Boaz Myhill available if his red card appeal is won. If not, the goalkeeper will serve a one-match ban after his weekend heroics!

Snow & Ice

Well I am feeling rather jealous at present as most people in my kinja digest have seen snow at some point today, however, living in a warm coastal area I haven't seen any of the white stuff yet this year! Have, just checked the weather forecast for Hornsea and for the time being I do not think I shall see any, will it be December before Europe's fastest eroding coastline, the Holderness Coastline sees the snow?

Gym!

Today, I made my way to the gym I have joined at Hornsea Leisure Centre in order to increase my fitness!

Hull City 2 - Queens Park Rangers 2

In the first half we were composed, passing the ball well and got a good goal just before half time! Five minutes into the second half Billy Paynter scores his first goal for the club and we are all happy this was going to prove a turning point for "The Tigers", not us though.

We sat back on the lead they got a goal back, ok lets not panic and get the win! Barmby went off injured (hope he is ok!) They score again and the writing is on the wall, Hull City have blown a lead and get a draw.

While a corner is played at one end, Myhill runs to near the bench and said a few cross words! Next minute he handles outside the area and is sent off. The rest of the game potters on and it ends 2-2, before the game this would have been a good result but 50 min into the game you do not want anything less than a victory really!

What is wrong with the tigers, the contrast was astounding! To self destruct like that is not good at all! People who keep saying "be positive" fair comment but how can you be positive from that performance (incedently I was not there just listening live). There is a problem somewhere that needs to be sorted sooner rather than later.

I would have settled for a point at the start but then expected 3 and then lucky to get one! At this rate with Barmby out and Myhill out for 3 we will be lucky to be able to put 16 players out for the squad. Anyway a much better performance for an hour and then we hung on (how many times have I said that this season). A pity about Barmby and Myhill (man of the match even though he got sent off) - our two best players overall - still Duke sounded as though he did OK when he came on!

Hornsea Christmas Lights Night!

Tonight I went into the town centre to see the towns Christmas lights been turned on, and to assist on one of the stalls in the town . Unfortnately it rained quite heavily however quite a lot of people still turned out!

Also today about 500 people became stranded on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall near to Jamaica Inn following a crash which has closed a snow-hit road. More than 100 cars and coaches are on the blocked road, following the crash, which involved dozens of vehicles. Military helicopters have been called in to help police deal with what they are calling a major incident, following England's first snow of the winter.

Went to help at my local Scout group this evening which is always good fun!

Decent increase in performance, simple to use!

On the whole, this is a simple efficient firefox extension that does what it claims. It installs, it increases the speed of page loading in many circumstances, job done, no fuss. However using FasterFox, the default installation is for 'TurboCharged', which exceeds RFC specifications, and may place uneccessary bandwidth pressure on some servers, and may result in blocking from others.

However, I have installed the extension on my Firefox 1.0.7 browser and it appears to work well, however I am still not using Firefox 1.5 as my browser of choice yet due to problems with certain extensions! I am sure this will be sorted in time though!

Hull City 1 - Southampton 1

Nigel Quashie was sent off following a 19-man brawl on the stroke of half time as Hull City and Southampton shared the spoils. Southampton dominated the first half and should have had more than the one-goal leadby the time Hull levelled the score through Nick Barmby just before the break.

However, the match erupted in the dying seconds of the first half when Southampton's Matt Oakley and Hull's Curtis Woodhouse tangled and Nigel Quashie came storming in followed by every other player on the pitch apart from both goalkeepers and Saints striker Theo Walcott.

After the game Southampton manager Harry Redknapp was exasperated by the incident. Hull manager Peter Taylor tried to look at the positives after his side served up a dire display, but he admitted that he is concerned about an injury to striker Ben Burgess.

Southampton took the lead with the fist real attack of the game. Walcott broke down the right and played infield to Quashie, who touched the ball to Kosowski, who fired a low right-footed shot to Boaz Myhill. With just 14 minutes played Burgess hobbled off to be replaced by Barmby and Hull struggled to cope with the change as well as Southampton's impressive, expansive game.

Brett Ormerod clipped the upright with a shot on the turn from six yards and Walcott and Rory Delap both missed decent openings. City failed to threaten in the second period and the lively Walcott came the closest to a winner with two long-range efforts that were turned aside by Myhill.

It was great to get a point but we should have won the game. After a positive team selection by Peter Taylor with the three stikers we struggled to make any impact in the first half. The problem is that we are lacking in many departments. Hull City has not had a successful striker since Burgess/Allsop in League 2. Last season we scored many goals but they mostly came from midfield players, Elliot and Green.

We need someone who will get us 20 a season and we haven't got that. Fagan would be better off turned into a right winger. Brown is going back to Sunderland, hopefully very soon as he is awful. Burgess could be out for a while again. Payter needs time to settle in but he doesn't look like the player that we need. Barmby isn't an all out striker, even though he is the only one scoring.

We need to either sign an old head,like Windass who will get us goals or someone who is scoring, like Lee Trundle. We also need a creative and big midfield. It is clear that Green is not the man and Welsh and Woodhouse, even though they are very good players, are too small and not commanding enough to dominate a midfield. Come on Adam Pearson, open up that wallet and spend some big money or we are going to struggle all season. Sorry for the rant, but this is just the way I feel about Hull City at present!

Reading 3 - Hull City 1

Unfortunately today Hull City where beaten by two goals in an explosive minute midway through the second half. Which saw Reading (second in the championship) defeat Hull to move within a point of championship leaders Sheffield United. The visitors looked to have snatched the draw when Nicky Barmby's close-range header cancelled out Bobby Convey's early opener.

But an acrobatic strike form Kevin Doyle was quickly followed by Glen Little's side-foot finish to seal a 3-1 win for Reading and extend their club record unbeaten run to 21 games. Personally I am not too surprised due to the fact that the match was away and Reading seem to be in good form at present! I think Peter Taylor really needs to improve things and quickly, we want longer than one season in the championship.
