Went out in Hornsea again!

As it is the bank holiday weekend I decided to have my second night out in the town, and actually saw a few people I haven't seen for a while which made it all the better and unfortunately also led to the delays in updating my blog!

I also had another driving lesson today which was another enjoyable experience, before next weeks expedition to York for a lesson once more!

I would like to say I have forgotten about the election, but that couldn't be true, as the date draws closer and closer. For a bit of fun don't forget to try the link on my sidebar!

Practice Graduation and Scouts!

Went to the Spa in Scarborough today to have a run through of how I will complete the forthcoming MSc graduation ceremony that will take place at Scarborough Spa, I think it will be an enjoyable affair, getting to see people I haven't seen for a year and catching up with people generally. It is also nice to see how a place you haven't been to for four months and completed your dissertation on is coming along!

Also today I did my normal Thursday night thing and helped at the local Scout group, tonight we were checking over our 14 x 14 tents ready for camp in the Summer at Marlow!

Head teachers complain of abuse!

I saw the following article on the BBC news website and I personally think it is a very worrying development in UK society when not even parents can have rational conversations with headmasters about there childrens behaviour!

Head teachers say they are increasingly being abused, threatened and assaulted by parents. The National Association of Head Teachers says, in January alone, five head teachers were attacked by parents, while 10 were threatened by them.

One teacher was even chased by a parent after receiving telephone threats which can be considered very worrying indeed. She says she and her family as well as teachers and governors at her primary school in Wisbech were harassed, intimidated and threatened by the parents.

Personally, I think a teachers job is getting harder by the day and parents should really learn to control their emotions or how do they expect their children to control them. And personally I do not think that classroom disputes should leave the classroom, but maybe this is an old fashioned view now?

Election Test!

Today I put a new link on my blog for a quiz that theoretically tells you how you are going to vote in the general election, I don't know how good it is because I haven't had time to try it out yet but I shall just have to see!

St. George's Day and Alonso fights off Schumacher in Grand Prix!

Today, I watched the San Marino Grand Prix and I thought that Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher turned the Grand Prix into the most dramatic demonstration of follow my leader since Red Rum chased down Crisp in the 1973 Grand National, not that I can remember that. The difference here was the leader hung on.

I thought after watching the race that Jenson Button was no slouch either, returning to the podium for the first time this season. Like Schumacher's, Button's problems appear to be behind him. He did not have the pace to keep Schumacher at bay, but he secured a morale-boosting result that BAR would have taken at the start of play on Friday.

Back then Schumacher would also have settled for second, and his 100th podium finish for Ferrari. Yet had he not made a mistake during qualifying yesterday morning, locking up after hitting a bump, Schumacher would have been celebrating his 85th career win. On this evidence he will not have long to wait.

At least, they would have been for TV viewers had the pictures been transmitted. ITV went to an advertisement break with three laps to go, returning as the cars began the final lap. The message, if not the pictures, got through. Ferrari are back.

Until the race Alonso had not completed more than three laps on the bounce, making set-up and tyre choice far from straightforward. The result was a car running on reduced revs to protect the engine and struggling badly over the closing laps.

Button delivered on the promise shown all weekend. He was unlucky to lose traction on dust thrown up by the back markers as he prepared to make his second stop. Schumacher was through in an instant.

Walsall 3 - Hull City 0

Unfortunately today Hull looked a shadow of the team that secured promotion last week and still have hopes of finishing the season as League One champions.

Almost from the start Walsall were by far the more active, determined and effective side, although their goalkeeper Andy Oakes did have to make a couple of early saves from Ian Ashbee and Nick Barmby.

But it was Hull goalkeeper Boaz Myhill who had to pull off the first really outstanding save by flinging himself to his left to keep out a fierce 14 minute drive from Surman.

That set the pattern for the rest of the match as Walsall constantly moved forward with the opening goal coming after 34 minutes.

Personally, I think Hull City have stopped trying to become league 1 champions and are happy to take second place, after all Doncaster Rovers who where promoted as champions from division 3 last season have not maintained there promotion form. However, in the championship next season it could be a different story, we will just have to wait and see!

Walsall could have gone further in front six minutes from the end but Myhill made a fine save from Surman's header.

Got on top of paperwork, slept and failure of my new external hard disk, whoops!

Today I have spent most of the day sleeping and filling in paperwork for various different things! Why does life have to involve so much paperwork when the weather outside is nice enough to go for a stroll?

I also learnt today that I had not set my new external hard disk up correctly, better to learn that now rather than when my computer crashes and I loose all my information and photographs, I would think!

After Megameet!

It was an interesting weekend. I got to know a lot more about Eurojam, I met over 200 other staff members, several of whom I had not met before. Visited the Jamboree site and attended quite a few meetings with various other teams and people including other SAGGA members.

One thing that struck me was the size of the operation. I guess that when someone says 10,000 participants, it takes a while for the size to sink in.

Unfortunately on the Friday night when I arrived it was quite wet so it was more like putting your tent up in a lake than on Gilwell's campsite!

All in all I think a lot was achieved during the weekend, and I think a lot of work will be necessary before the event from the end of July to the beginning of August!

Megameet!

This weekend I am making my way down to Gilwell Park for the first ever time, for a meeting for all the people involved in organising Eurojam and Scouting 2007, I think it should prove to be a interesting weekend, as I have been to a lot of Scout Activity Centres in the South including the Longridge campsite, but never actually to Gilwell Park so I think the weekend should be interesting!

Sporting Lisbon beat Newcastle 4 -2 on aggregate!

I thought Newcastle was going ton have a long run in the UEFA cup but unfortunately Sporting Lisbon won 4-2 on aggregate in the end! Sporting lost last week's first leg 1-0 and fell further behind after 20 minutes in Lisbon.

Kieron Dyer put Newcastle ahead against the run of play as Sporting's attempts to make up its one-goal deficit from the first leg left gaps in defense. Dyer picked up a loose ball just outside the home team's area and slotted it through goalkeeper Ricardo Pereira's legs.

Joao Moutinho then forced a spectacular save from Shay Given with a volley, and Dyer hit another shot just wide at the other end.

It was a game of missed chances with both Dyer and Bowyer missing chances to score in the game and in the end Graeme Souness blaimed the Magpies bad luck for the defeat!

Doctor Who!

At the weekend the Doctor took Rose back through time to 1869. But in Victorian Cardiff, the dead are walking, and Charles Dickens joins the battle with the ethereal Gelth.

I seem to be enjoying the new series more and more as it progresses however, I nearly forgot to post any comments on it this week!

Watched Chelsea win 6-5 on aggregate!

I was pleased to see that Chelsea have advanced into the Champions League quarter finals despite a defeat in the second leg to Bayern Munich, which means at least we will have one British club in the competition!

Visited James Blog and Michael Schumacher does not finish in Bahrain!

Did my round of the blogs once again and discovered that James had updated his blog title and the general appearance of his blog! I also watched the next episode of the new Doctor Who with Christopher Ecclestone entitled The End of the World over the weekend which was good! The series seems to be getting better and better, however I don't think Christopher has reached the heights of previous doctors yet, but there is still a few more episodes to come, before his final appearance as the doctor!

Also in the news today was that the Spaniard Fernando Alonso has taken a massive step towards achieving his aim of winning his first world title before Michael Schumacher retires after his victory at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Hull City 2 - Barnsley 1

Well it could be said that we are getting there, but maybe that would be speaking to soon!

Barnsley were unlucky to come away from a packed KC Stadium with nothing after a fast-paced, bruising encounter, of which the outcome never looked certain until the final whistle.

The atmosphere was markedly more electric than at previous matches, due in no small part to the sizeable travelling contingent, the sunny weather and the fact that Hull City fans are finally starting to believe they will be watching Championship football next season.

Glastonbury sold out!

Tickets for the Glastonbury Festival sold out in record time on the morning of Sunday 3 April 2005. I don't know what else to say apart from some of my friends are visiting the event! Unusual for me to be lost for words I hear you all cry, but I can't think of much else to say.
