Second season of Doctor Who is go!

The BBC has commissioned a second season of Doctor Who and a Christmas special, which made me especially happy today, as I only found out at 11.20p.m. this evening so I thought I would write a post!

According to the Guardian, Jane Tranter has commissioned more Doctor Who. "I want to make Doctor Who again," she said. She claimed to be shocked by the first episode's popularity.

The news pleased me and hence I thought I would blog about the announcement!

Doctor Who!

I watched the new Doctor Who at the weekend as I suppose it should be watched, I have been waiting for weeks for the new series to be televised!

It is Doctor Who stripped down to its bare essentials, all the technological explanations and build up cut out and straight to the adventure.

I think it should be rated at 8/10 but I'm sure future episodes will be better as I used to like the technobable. However, I am not saying it was bad, as it was good as the Doctor always is, it just takes time for a new series of this popular show to get established!

Hull City 2 - Port Vale 2

A Craig Fagan penalty put Hull City on top of League One for the first time since early January.

However, manager Peter Taylor admitted he was unhappy about his side's performance over the 90 minutes: "Sometimes you have to dig in and this was one of those times. Port Vale was better than us for much of the game."

But I think one point is better than zero, especially with the outcome of Tranmere Rovers match!

Night Out!

Went for a night out in town, it was quite busy so I saw lots of people that I know. However, I cannot wait for the weather to improve slightly so I can go camping once again! As I am really missing the outdoors lifestyle at present, plus I am not getting out enough since I left Scarborough!

Bournemouth 0 - Hull City 4

I listened to the match on Hull City world today and listened to Hull City A.F.C taking another giant step towards a second successive promotion with Stuart Elliott adding to his formidable array of goals with two more at Dean Court.

Promotion rivals Bournemouth were overwhelmed and a well-beaten side long before Irish defender Shaun Maher was dismissed in the 53rd minute for kicking out at Craig Fagan. The Cherries could point to the fact that Hull managed only five shots on target, four of which went in, but they created precious little themselves and had no answer to Hull's more muscular approach.

Hull City Win Again!

This evening I did my usual Saturday night thing and went out and about in Hornsea after listening to the football on the Hull City A.F.C. website!

Once again, Hull City got three points with two second half penalties gave the Tigers all three points in a 2-0 victory over Torquay United at the KC Stadium. Craig Fagan slotted home the first on the hour mark after Junior Lewis had been bundled over by Martin Villis and Stuart Elliott added the second following Lee Canoville's trip on Nick Barmby.

Comic Relief 2005

I was pleased to see tonight that Comic Relief Raised £37,809,564 this evening! So a successful and fun night once again! I spent the evening with friends watching the frivolities!

Comic Relief is about having fun and making the world a better place. The organisation raises money and then uses it to help end poverty and unfairness.

The Comic Relief charity appeal has raised more than 37 million pounds for projects at home and in Africa and is on course to beat its own fundraising record set two years ago. Organisers are hoping to beat the 2003 total of 61 million pounds. Comic Relief, held every two years, was set up by British comedians in 1985 with a live BBC broadcast from a refugee camp in Sudan. It has since raised more than 337 million pounds. Each appeal sees children across Britain don red noses while a host of stars donate their time to raise money.

Lenny Henry, Rowan Atkinson, Elton John, Chris Evans and Stephen Fry starred in the BBC 1 show on Friday, with Fry also making a guest appearance on the BBC Radio soap "The Archers" in a special edition written by comedian Victoria Wood.

I was also pleased to see that more than six million red noses were sold for the event!

This evening I went to help at my local Scout group where the evenings theme was comic relief, so it was a little bit of a messy evening with custard pies being thrown everywhere. Everybody seemed to have fun though which was good!

It's alright for some!

I was pleased to see that David Coulthard made himself a tidy £125,000 bonus for his brilliant fourth place in last weekend's Australian Grand Prix. The British star found himself searching for a drive for most of last winter after he was dropped by McLaren. He eventually risked his reputation and commited to the unproven Red Bull team, accepting a small salary and agreeing to pay his own expenses. But the canny Scot's contract includes a clause that sees him earn around £25,000 for every point he scores.

I also went to the Gym in Hornsea today!

2nd place Hull City 1-5th place Hartlepool United 0

A rebound from a penalty was enough for Hull City to edge ever closer to the Championship and ensure a ten-point cushion between them and third-placed side Sheffield Wednesday.

They started the game much more confidently, with Hartlepool's defence looking rather unsteady at times. In the first minutes, an excellent left-foot shot by Nick Barmby flew just wide from 20 yards out, after being played in by Craig Fagan - a combination that looked increasingly promising.

The Tigers took the lead in the 12th minute after the linesman ruled Clark to have handled in the area. Top scorer Stuart Elliott saw his weak spot-kick saved by keeper Jim Provett, but the Northern Ireland international was there to put the rebound into an empty net.
City came agonisingly close to getting the all-important second goal after more good work by Barmby on the left saw Elliott pick up the ball in a central position, and his powerful shot from 20 yards out cannoned off the crossbar. Keeper Provett floundered, before Hartlepool somehow scrambled the ball off the line. Elliott could have scored two more in the last ten minutes, bringing good saves from Provett.

However, this made the tigers look good and the further through the season we can stay in the top two in league 1, the more I think we will more than likely be playing football in the Championship next season!

Dr Who is back in 19 days!

I am pleased that there will be a new series of Doctor Who broadcast by the BBC with the first episode reputably on the 26th March 2005. It has been a long time since I have seen new Doctor Who the last one was shown 16 years ago! However, we have had a lot of repeats in between, I am not really sure that repeats are as good as a new series!

The Beeb could have chosen a better night than a Saturday though as that is the night that most people go out! However, with a time of 7p.m. that is a good time to watch it before you go out so I suppose overall it is not that bad. Really, I will be pleased to have the Doctor back in the viewing schedule!

Went out to celebrate passing my MSc & Hull City 3 - Tranmere Rovers 1

Tonight, I decided to have a night out in Hornsea to celebrate passing my MSc! After listening to Hull City beating Tranmere at Prenton Park on the Hull City World Site, so it could be automatic promotion here we come!

Hull saw off their closest rivals Tranmere Rovers with a 3-1 win at Prenton Park. Tranmere had the boost of an early goal, but the visitors levelled just before half time before two goals in seven minutes put them in the clear. It was a bitter disappointment for Tranmere who failed to deliver at a vital stage.

They were given the boost of an eighth-minute lead when Ryan Taylor fired home a 30-yard free-kick.

It became 1-1 in the 43rd minute. Kevin Ellison got the better of Ian Sharps and Ian Goodison after a long clearance and rounded Achterberg to net easily. Tranmere had a penalty appeal turned down right on half time when Eugene Dadi appeared to be tripped, but in fact he was booked for diving.

Hull went ahead on 63 minutes with a well placed left-foot shot by ex-Rover Jason Price after he was put clear by Allison. New signing Craig Fagan was introduced on the hour and cut inside from a Price pass to open his account with a left-foot effort. The crossbar denied Allison on 72 minutes with Price heading over from the rebound.

Tranmere finished strongly but could find no way through with City keeper Boaz Myhill making an important late save from Iain Hume.

Passed my Master's degree!

Today was the day that I received my MSc results, so I now have a BSc in Geography and a MSc in Internet Computing, which cheared me up no end! So I think finally that a celebration is needed as the MSc only took eighteen months to complete!

I'm sort of missing Scarborough at present which is a little bit scary!

Eurojamlive & Scouts!

Today I have been working on the Eurojamlive website, filling out applications and helping out at my local Scout group! I also saw an article on the ITV F1 website where Jenson Button promises awsome racing in the coming season, and he also believes it's harder than any other year to work out who is going to be quick.

He summarised by saying that it is going to be an amazing season - one to remember, I hope! Lets hope that this is actually case and is an end to the Ferrari dominance of Formula 1. I am not so sure about that though, we can only hope!

March is here!

Well, I should know by now that Spring does not officially start yet but here's to hoping! Even though it is only the beginning of March nights should start to get longer and the weather should start to get brighter!

Today, we have had no snow in Hornsea which was good as I am beginning to get board of it, it is OK in holiday periods such as Christmas but it is not good in between. I dislike it when the snowfall is more like sleet, showing that spring has not sprung by this point, however the nights are getting lighter and warmer which is good! I will post more later.

Sheffield United loose to Arsenal (0-1)!

Well I was supposed to be visiting the Gym tonight, however I have to say the Arsenal vs. Sheffield United football match was so gripping on BBC 2 I couldn't tear myself away to visit the gym! There's always tomorrow I suppose!

A place in the last eight of the FA Cup was still up for grabs as Arsenal and Sheffield United could not be separated after the whole of full time in their fifth-round replay at Bramall Lane.

In the penalty shoot out I felt a little sorry for Sheffield United, as they played very well in the match as a whole and I felt the penalty shoot out was a horrible way to loose especially against Premiership opposition!

Elsewhere Rochdale a team my friend supports won 2-0 against Grimsby in League Two!
