Tory party left leaderless, as Blair promises to stay on!


The Tory party was left leaderless for a further three months on the day Tony Blair promised to stay on as Prime Minister to lay the foundations for a fourth successive Labour election victory.

The contrasting fortunes of the parties were brought into sharp focus yesterday when Michael Howard's plans to reform the Conservative leadership rules were rejected by his party at the same time as Mr Blair was dashing Gordon Brown's hopes of an early hand-over of power.
